This report was produced by the GENDERACTION project to explore the possible intersections between gender and Open Science and Open Innovation. It should be considered as a starting point for stakeholders to reflect on how the two ERA priorities may create reinforcing synergies. The report also underscores the need for further studies and analyses. It was submitted on 31 January 2019.

Gender diversity has the potential to drive scientific discovery and innovation. In this work, three approaches to gender diversity are described: diversity in research teams, diversity in research methods and diversity in research questions.
“Publish or perish” is tattooed on the mind of every academic. Like it or loathe it, publishing in high-profile journals is the fast track to positions in prestigious universities with illustrious colleagues and lavish resources, celebrated awards and plentiful grant funding.
This guide provides the backbone for the implementation of gender equality in different research funding and performing organisations across Europe. It starts by listing recommendations for the implementation of appropriate indicators, as well as for measures to avoid bias. It follows by providing further recommendations on how to implement an efficient system to monitor gender equality. Finally, it provides an overview of relevant grant management systems.
